거룩한 삶 The Life of Holiness

A.    거룩함을 추구하는 것은 그리스도인의 삶에 필수적이다(히 12:14, 벧전 1:15-16). The pursuit of holiness is essential to the Christian life (Hebrews 12:14; I Peter 1:15-16)

B.    거룩함은 (a)죄와는 분리하고 (b)하나님께 헌신한다는 뜻이다(롬 12:1,2, 고후 6:17-7:1). Holiness means (a) separation from sin and (b) dedication to God (Romans 12:1-2; II Corinthians 6:17-7:1)

C.    거룩함은 내면과 외면이 있다(고전 6:19-20, 고후 7:1). Holiness is both inward and outward (I Corinthians 6:19-20; II Corinthians 7:1)

D.    거룩함의 실천으로 우리는 육체의 정욕, 안목의 정욕, 이생의 자랑이라고 불리는 세상의 가치체계로부터 분리한다 (요일 2:15-17). The practices of holiness separate us from the world’s value system, namely, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life (I John 2:15-17)

E.    거룩함은 구원을 얻는 방법이 아니라, 구원 받은 결과이다. Holiness is not a means of earning salvation but a result of salvation

F.    율법주의가 아니라, 믿음과 사랑 그리고 성령에 동기부여를 받는다. Instead of legalism, we are motivated by faith, love, and the Holy Spirit

G.    모든 거룩함에 대한 가르침은 구체적 혹은 원칙적으로 성경말씀에서 나온 것이다. All holiness teachings come from Scripture, specifically or in principle

H.    거룩함은 마음에서부터 시작한다(갈 5;19-23, 엡 4:23-32, 고후 10:5). Holiness begins in the heart (Galatians 5:19-23; Ephesians 4:23-32; II Corinthians 10:5)

I.      신체와 말하는 것, 보는 것에 대한 청지기(고전 6:19-20, 약 1:26, 시 101:2-3) Stewardship of the body, the tongue, and the eye (I Corinthians 6:19-20; James 1:26; Psalm 101:2-3)

J.      외모와 복장(신 22;5, 고전 11;13-16, 딤전 2:8-10)에 포함된 원칙은 (a) 정숙하고, (b) (장식용 보석 및 메이크업 같은) 개인의 장식을 피하고, (c) 과도한 지출을 피하고, (d) 의복과 머리에 있어서 남녀 사이를 구별하는 것이다. Outward appearance and dress (Deuteronomy 22:5; I Corinthians 11:13-16; I Timothy 2:8-10), including these principles: (a) modesty, (b) avoidance of personal ornamentation (ornamental jewelry and makeup), (c) moderation in cost, (d) distinction between male and female in dress and hair

K.    다른 중요한 측면: (a)개인과 사회의 관계에 정의롭고 자비하며, (b)결혼의 존엄성(한 남편과 한 아내로서 삶에 최선을 다함), (c)사람 생명의 존엄성, (d)정직과 고결함, (e)건전한 교제, 단결, 책임 그리고 경건한 권위에 서로 순종함, (f) 쾌락의 규제. Other important aspects: (a) justice and mercy in personal and social relationships; (b) sanctity of marriage (one man and one woman committed for life); (c) sanctity of human life; (d) honesty and integrity; (e) wholesome fellowship, unity, accountability, and mutual submission to godly authority; (f) regulation of amusements.

L.    거룩함은 구원에 필수적인 부분이며, 풍성한 삶의 일부분, 즐거운 특권, 하나님의 은혜의 축복, 자유와 능력의 삶, 하나님께서 디자인 하신 삶의 방식이다. Holiness is an integral part of our salvation, part of abundant life, a joyful privilege, a blessing from God’s grace, a life of freedom and power, the way God designed us to live.

                                                                                          

{해설} 거룩한 삶 The Life of Holiness

거룩함을 추구하는 것은 그리스도인의 삶에 필수적이다. “모든 사람으로 더불어 화평함과 거룩함을 좇으라 이것이 없이는 아무도 주를 보지 못하리라(히 12:14)”. 하나님은 거룩하시므로 우리의 모든 행동에서도 거룩하라고 명령하셨다(벧전 1:15-16).

The pursuit of holiness is essential to the Christian life. “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord” (Hebrews 12:14). God commands us to be holy in all our conduct because He is holy (I Peter 1:15-16).

거룩해지는 것은 우리가 하나님의 성품과 뜻을 준수하므로 성장하는 과정이다. 비록 우리는 불완전하지만, 우리는 성숙해지고 있다. 이 과정 내내, (1)죄와 분리하고 (2)하나님께 헌신함으로 우리는 거룩하다(롬 12:1-2; 고후 6:17-7:1).

Being holy is a process of growth as we conform to the character and will of God. Although we are imperfect, we are growing into maturity. Throughout this process, we are holy in the sense of (1) separation from sin and (2) dedication to God. (See Romans 12:1-2; II Corinthians 6:17-7:1.)

거룩함은 내면과 외면이 있다(고전 6:19-20; 고후 7:1; 살전 5:23). 그래서 생각과 태도뿐만 아니라 행동, 언어, 오락과 의복까지 포함한다. 거룩함의 실천으로 우리는 육체의 정욕, 안목의 정욕, 이생의 자랑이라고 불리는 세상의 가치체계로부터 분리된다(요일 2:15-17).

Holiness is both inward and outward. (See I Corinthians 6:19-20; II Corinthians 7:1; I Thessalonians 5:23.) Thus, it encompasses thoughts and attitudes as well as conduct, speech, amusements, and dress. The practices of holiness separate us from the world’s value system, namely, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life (I John 2:15-17).

거룩함은 구원을 얻는 방법이 아니라 구원 받은 결과이다. 우리는 우리 자신을 거룩하게 만들어 내는 것이 아니라, 하나님의 거룩함에 참여한다(히 12:10). 어떤 규칙을 준수하여 구원 받은 것이 아니라, 예수 그리스도와 우리의 믿음의 관계를 통하여 구원 받는다. 이것은 순종에서 나오고 영적인 열매를 맺는다.

Holiness is not a means of earning salvation but a result of salvation. We do not manufacture our own holiness, but we are partakers of God’s holiness (Hebrews 12:10). We are not saved by adherence to certain rules but by our faith relationship with Jesus Christ, which issues forth in obedience and produces spiritual fruit.

그리스도인의 삶은 자유이지, 율법주의가 아니다. 형식적인 법을 따르는 대신에 우리는 믿음, 사랑, 성령에 내적 동기를 부여 받는다. 이것이 법이 줄 수 있는 것보다 훨씬 더 큰 헌신과 능력을 만든다. 그리스도인들도 도덕적이지 못한 문제를 개인이 선택하게 될 수도 있겠지만, 우리의 자유는 도덕의 법 또는 성경의 가르침을 따른다(롬 6:15; 14; 갈 5:13).

The Christian life is one of liberty, not legalism. Instead of following the external law, we are motivated internally by faith, love, and the Holy Spirit, which produce greater dedication and power than the law could impart. Christians have freedom to make personal choices in nonmoral matters, but liberty does not negate moral law or scriptural teaching. (See Romans 6:15; 14; Galatians 5:13.)

모든 진정한 거룩함에 대한 가르침은 성경에 바탕을 두고 있다. - 구체적인 말이나 현대 상황에 원칙을 적용하는 것이 유효한지에 대해서. 우리는 하나님의 말씀의 영감, 기름부음 받은 목사와 교사가 말씀을 선포하고 적용한 것, 성령의 내적인 자극과 자각으로부터 거룩함을 배운다.

All true holiness teachings are based on Scripture—whether specific statements or valid applications of principles to contemporary situations. We learn holiness from the inspired Word of God, anointed pastors and teachers who proclaim and apply the Word, and internal promptings and convictions of the Holy Spirit.

거룩함은 성령의 열매를 개발하고, 경건하지 않은 태도를 버리고, 건전한 생각을 포용하는 그 마음에서 시작된다(갈 5:19-23; 엡 4:23-32; 고후 10:5; 빌 4:8).

Holiness begins in the heart, as we develop the fruit of the Spirit, put away ungodly attitudes, and embrace wholesome thoughts. (See Galatians 5:19-23; Ephesians 4:23-32; II Corinthians 10:5; Philippians 4:8.)

거룩함은 성령의 전인 몸을 올바르게 청지기적으로 책임진다는 것을 포함한다. 우리는 탐욕스러워서는 안 된다. 더럽고 술 취하고 중독시키는 물질을 사용해서도 안 된다(고전 3:16-17; 6:12, 19-20). 우리는 건전하게 대화한다(약 1:26; 3:1-2; 4:11; 5:12). 우리는 악으로부터 우리의 눈을 지킨다(시 101:2-3; 119:37; 마 6:22-23). 현대 미디어에 사단이 광범위하게 분포하기 때문에, 우리는 텔레비전, 영화, 인터넷과 관련된 위험을 특히 염두해 두어야 한다.

Holiness includes proper stewardship of the body as the temple of the Holy Spirit. We are not to become gluttonous or use substances that defile, intoxicate, or addict. (See I Corinthians 3:16-17; 6:12, 19-20.) We are to use our tongue for wholesome speech. (See James 1:26; 3:1-2; 4:11; 5:12.) We are to guard our eyes from evil. (See Psalm 101:2-3; 119:37; Matthew 6:22-23.) Because of the widespread display of evil in modern media, we must be particularly mindful of the dangers associated with television, movies, and the Internet.

거룩함은 외모와 의복에까지 확장된다(신 22:5; 고전 11:13-16; 딤전 2:8-10). 성경적인 원칙을 (1)정숙하고 (2)(장식용 보석 및 메이크업 같은) 개인의 장식을 피하고 (3)비용을 아끼고 (4)의복과 머리에서 남녀 사이를 구별하는 것을 포함한다. 여성은 자신의 머리를 자르는 대신 길게 기르며, 남성은 자신의 머리를 분명하도록 짧게 자른다.

Holiness extends to outward appearance and dress. (See Deuteronomy 22:5; I Corinthians 11:13-16; I Timothy 2:8-10.) Biblical principles here include (1) modesty, (2) avoidance of personal ornamentation (ornamental jewelry and makeup), (3) moderation in cost, and (4) distinction between male and female in dress and hair. Women are to let their hair grow long instead of cutting it, while men are to cut their hair noticeably short.

거룩함의 다른 중요한 측면은 개인과 사회의 관계에 정의와 자비를 포함하는 것인데; 오직 한 남자와 한 여자의 결혼 안에서 결혼과 성의 관계에서의 존엄함; 인간 생명의 존엄함; 정직과 고결; 건전한 교제, 단결, 책임, 그리스도의 몸에서 경건한 권위에 서로 순종; 쾌락의 규제를 포함한다.

Other important aspects of holiness include justice and mercy in personal and social relationships; the sanctity of marriage and sexual relationships only within the marriage of one man and one woman; the sanctity of human life; honesty and integrity; wholesome fellowship, unity, accountability, and mutual submission to godly authority in the body of Christ; and regulation of amusements.

거룩함은 죄의 권세와 영향에서 우리를 구원하는 필수적인 부분이다. 그것은 풍성한 삶, 즐거운 특권, 하나님의 은혜의 축복, 자유와 능력의 영광스러운 삶의 일부이다. 거룩한 삶은 인류를 향한 하나님의 본래 의도와 디자인을 충족시킨다. 성령 받은 이들에게 거룩함이란 아주 평범한 것이고 유일한 삶의 방식이다.

Holiness is an integral part of our salvation from the power and effects of sin. It is part of abundant life, a joyful privilege, a blessing from God’s grace, a glorious life of freedom and power. The life of holiness fulfills God’s original intention and design for humanity. For the Spirit-filled believer, holiness is the normal—indeed the only—way to live.
