True happiness

한 남자가 있다. 자식도 형제도 없이 혼자 산다. 그러나 그는 쉬지도 않고 일만 하며 산다. 그렇게 해서 모은 재산도 그의 눈에는 차지 않는다. 그러면서도 그는 가끔, “어찌하여 나는 즐기지도 못하고 사는가? 도대체 내가 누구 때문에 이 수고를 하는가?” 하고 말하니, 그의 수고도 헛되고, 부질없는 일이다. There is one alone, without companion: He has neither son nor brother. Yet there is no end to all his labors, Nor is his eye satisfied with riches. But he never asks, “For whom do I toil and deprive myself of good?” This also is vanity and a grave misfortune. - 전 Ecclesiastes 4:8

행복이란 ‘삶에서 기쁨과 만족감을 느껴 흐뭇한 상태’를 말합니다. 사람들의 몸과 마음은 행복을 찾아 분주하게 달립니다. 하지만 행복의 파랑새를 잡는 것은 쉽지 않습니다. 그것은 진정한 행복이 무엇인가에 대한 첫 단추를 잘못 채운 결과입니다. 과연 참 행복이란 무엇일까요?

‘Happiness’ refers to ‘a state of joy and satisfaction’. People’s minds and bodies are busy searching for that happiness. But the ‘bluebird of happiness’ is not easy to grasp. It is because people don’t understand the truth of happiness and start off on the wrong foot. Then what exactly is true happiness?

1.      누구나 행복을 원하지만 행복을 누리지 못하고 있습니다.
Everybody seeks happiness, but fails to truly experience it.

A.        마음에 참 안식과 평안이 없습니다.
There is no true rest and peace of mind.

B.        미래에 대한 두려움이 있습니다.
People have a fear about the future.

C.        각종 질병과 사건, 사고로 고통 당하고 있습니다.
People suffer from various diseases and calamities.

D.       인생은 낙심, 좌절, 허무의 연속입니다.
Life is an unending series of disappointments, setbacks, and vanity.

E.        사람은 반드시 죽고 그 후에는 심판이 있습니다.
Men are destined to die, and after death, there is the judgment.

2.      왜 우리에게 이런 고통과 불행이 찾아왔습니까?
Why did these suffering and unhappiness come to us?

A.        그 이유는 하나님을 떠났기 때문입니다.
It is because we left God.

B.        죄의 포로가 되어 삽니다.
We live as a prisoner of sin.

C.        죄 지은 인간은 두려움과 불안 속에 살며 결코 행복을 얻을 수 없습니다.
Men who have sinned, live in fear anxiety, and can never attain happiness.

D.       사람은 행복을 원하지만 불행 속에 삽니다.
Men seek happiness, but live in misery.

E.        그러면 과연 참 행복을 어떻게 얻을 수 있을까요?
Then how can we attain true happiness?

3.      사람들은 불행을 해결하기 위해 어떻게 하고 있습니까?
What are some things people do to get rid of misery?

A.        점, 주술, 굿, 그 외 여러 종교를 찾습니다.
People seek future-tellers, sorcerers, shamans, and other various forms of religion.

B.        교육, 철학, 문학, 예술로 삶을 승화시키려고 합니다.
People seek to sublimate their lives in education, philosophy, literature, and art.

C.        막연히 착한 행실과 공로를 쌓아 해결하려 합니다.
People do good deeds for the sake of doing good, assuming with uncertainty that it will solve the problem of unhappiness.

D.       사람의 힘으로는 참 행복을 찾을 수가 없습니다.
Men are incapable of attaining of true happiness.

4.      그러면 참 행복이란 무엇입니까?
So then, what is true happiness?

A.        예수님을 통하여 하나님을 만나는 것입니다.
It is our encounter with God through Jesus Christ.

B.        예수 그리스도께서 주신 평안을 누리는 것입니다.
True happiness is living in peace that Jesus Christ gives us.

C.        예수님의 피로 모든 죄를 용서받는 것입니다.
It is forgiveness of all sins through the blood of Jesus.

D.       신분이 변하여 천국을 소유하게 되는 것입니다.
It is the transformation of our status, allowing us to inherit the kingdom of heaven.

E.        풍성한 삶, 영원한 생명을 얻는 것입니다.
It is being given a new life of abundance and eternity.

5.      예수님을 만나면 참 행복을 얻습니다.
When we meet Jesus, we gain true happiness.

A.        하나님 자녀의 권세를 누리며 삽니다.
We can live as sons and daughters of God, as we are given the right of God’s sons and daughters.

B.        죄를 용서 받아 마음에 기쁨과 평강이 넘칩니다.
Our hearts are filled with peace and joy because our sins have been forgiven.

C.        하나님께 기도 응답을 받습니다.
We can get prayers answered when we pray unto God.

D.       승리의 삶을 삽니다.
We can live a life of victory.

E.        다른 사람을 행복의 길로 인도합니다.
We can lead others to the way of happiness.

Please close your eyes and follow my payers out loud. 사랑의 하나님. 저는 죄인입니다. 이 시간 예수님을 나의 구원자와 주님으로 마음에 모십니다. 지금 내 마음에 들어와 주십시오. 예수님이 나의 모든 죄를 용서하시고, 인생의 모든 문제를 십자가에서 다 해결해 주신 것을 믿습니다. 하나님은 아버지가 되시고, 저는 하나님의 자녀가 되었습니다. 영생을 주시고 천국 가게 하심을 감사 드리며 예수님 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.
